Patient FAQs

Most patients undergoing joint replacement are encouraged to mobilise on the day of surgery and typically go home the next day. Wounds typically take 2 weeks to heal and your primary care team can help with wound dressings and suture care. You can expect to return to normal daily activities between 4-6 weeks and expect to be walking normally by 3 months.

We also accept direct appointment requests from patients, however, your insurance provider may demand that a referral letter be sent in order to cover the appointment and surgery. Please check with your insurer to avoid unexpected bills

Yes, currently there is no difference in the billing of robotic assisted versus conventional intrumented joint replacement

In select cases, simultaneous bilateral knee replacements are possible but not always recommended. This is a decision made after careful consultation.

Mr. Gibbons only uses implants that have been extensively shown in research and international registry data to be the highest performing implants with regard to longevity

Getting a referral is straightforward. Once received, we'll contact you to schedule your visit.

Any healthcare provider can refer you, including your GP, physiotherapist, or sports medicine specialist.

Mr Gibbons will review all referrals and insofar as is possible recommend any scans required prior to the appointment to ensure optimization of your first visit. In the consultation room he will take a detailed, focussed history regarding your present complaint and then perform a physical examination.

What do I do when I arrive at the hospital?

You'll arrive at Mater Private Hospital and move through pre-operative checks with our team. Mr. Gibbons and the anaesthesiologist will review the plan with you before theatre.
